A Solomon Islander who helped save John F. Kennedy when a Japanese destroyer sank the future US president's patrol boat during World War II has died aged 93, his family said Monday.

Eroni Kumana and his fellow islander Buiku Gasa were out in a canoe in 1943 when they came across the injured Kennedy, who was then a naval lieutenant, and members of his crew stranded on a coral atoll.

The pair helped the Americans survive and Kennedy went on to become the 35th president of the United States, keeping a coconut from the ordeal as a paperweight on his White House desk.

Kumana's son Esori said his father passed away surrounded by family members on Saturday aged 93 and was laid to rest on his home island of Ronongga on Monday.

"It was very sad (but) he lived a full life and we are proud of him," he told AFP via telephone from the island, where villagers were preparing a feast in Kumana's honour.

Kennedy's boat PT-109 was on a night-time patrol when a Japanese destroyer suddenly loomed out of the dark and sheared the wooden vessel in half, according to the Smithsonian magazine.

Spilled fuel ignited in the water, causing both the Japanese and other US PT boats to assume the 13-man crew had all perished in the shark-infested waters.

In fact, 11 of them were still alive and when dawn broke Kennedy led his crew on a five-kilometre (three-mile) swim from the boat's wreckage to a coral atoll.

Kennedy, who had suffered a ruptured spinal disc, towed a badly burned crewman behind him during the marathon swim.

Eventually Kumana and Gasa passed in their canoe. They helped collect food for the crew and Kennedy sent them off to get help with a message etched into the shell of a coconut, reading: "Nauru Isl commander/native knows posit/he can pilot/11 alive/need small boat/Kennedy".

After being rescued, Kennedy retrieved the coconut and had it encased in plastic, using it as a paperweight throughout his post-war political career. It is still on display in the Kennedy Museum in Boston.

Kumana and Gasa were invited to Kennedy's 1961 inauguration but were unable to make the trip to Washington.

Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. Gasa died in November 2005.

US President Barack Obama has publicly joked about Area 51 at a White House event for the Kennedy Center honorees.

"Now, when you first become president, one of the questions that people ask you is, what's really going on in Area 51?" he said.

"When I wanted to know, I'd call Shirley MacLaine. I think I just became the first president to ever publicly mention Area 51. How's that, Shirley?"

MacLaine, who is among five artists who are receiving the honour, has claimed to have seen UFOs.

She was joined by Billy Joel joins Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock and opera star Martina Arroyo at the event, where they were awarded the nation's highest honour for influencing American culture through the arts.

Joel said the honour stands apart from his six Grammys.

"This is different. It's our nation's capital," he told The Associated Press. "This is coming more from my country than just people who come to see me. It's a little overwhelming."

The 64-year-old musician born in the Bronx has been playing the piano since he was a boy, growing up on New York's Long Island. There was always music in the house, he said. His mother sang. His father played the piano.

Mr Obama saluted the honorees, saying the performers were extraordinary.

"The diverse group of extraordinary individuals we honour today haven't just proven themselves to be the best of the best," Mr Obama said. "Despite all their success, all their fame, they've remained true to themselves - and inspired the rest of us to do the same."

But it was his remarks about Area 51 that made the news in the US.

Conspiracy theorists have long been obsessed by the secret Nevada base and have alleged it was a location of frequent UFO sightings.

Area 51 had been rumored to be a Central Intelligence Agency facility, but new documents released in August confirmed its existence.

With loving greetings from all souls at this station, this is Matthew.

First we shall speak about a matter that has touched hearts everywhere. Typhoon Haiyan is profoundly tragic for everyone who lost dear family and friends, homes and businesses—they don’t know that at soul level they agreed to be part of this major act of planetary cleansing. Because releasing accruing negativity was essential to keep Earth progressing toward balance, all the people whose physical lives ended and the millions who are struggling in the storm’s aftermath embraced the opportunity to evolve by participating as they did.

This kind of enthusiastic mass agreement doesn’t seem even possible in your concept of time, but in the eternal life of the soul and the timelessness of the continuum, opportunities to leap forward in soul growth are eagerly sought, and universe-wide they happen with some frequency. Please do not think that our explanation of a devastating situation is dispassionate or that we are unaffected by the grieving souls and their massive reconstruction ahead. We are among the myriad souls who showered light on the Philippines during and after the storm to assist all who made transition and to fortify the inner strength of survivors.  We feel their heartbreak and fright and confusion about how to start rebuilding their lives, their villages and farms and cities.

How we wish they could know that their loved ones were greeted by name and “Thank you!” as they entered Nirvana. Just as fervently we wish they could know that all who died and they themselves collectively agreed to give Earth that vital lift she needed to stay her course toward balance. If Gaia’s gratitude could be seen, your world would be ablaze with the radiance of its light.

Widespread compassion is adding light to the lives that in this moment are bleak and sorrowing, and the generosity of spirit in which assistance is being given is adding light, too. We see the overview of medical teams, suppliers of food and water, and clearing crews as they persevere in efforts to maneuver through areas where roads were washed out or are filled with destroyed buildings. We see the panic of hungry people looking for food, and we see those who take items that have nothing to do with survival but will be needed when a semblance of normalcy is restored. Light beings throughout this universe are streaming love-light energy to all of those souls.

Fifty years ago the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy shocked the world, but even today very few individuals know that his death had far more than a deeply emotional impact. Eventually the truth will emerge that one of the reasons he was killed was to prevent his abolishing the privately-owned Federal Reserve System and returning the national currency to its dollar status, a move that would have ended the Illuminati’s control of that country’s economy and severely weakened their ability to manipulate the global economy. Half a century later than Kennedy intended, the dismantling of that nefarious system is underway.

I have asked my mother to copy here the thought-provoking message she received from President Kennedy some years ago. [The following message, which was for a British author’s book about Princess Diana that includes messages from her and several others, was transmitted December 30, 2004. I don’t know if the book was published or if so, by what title.]

To the world that I left over forty years past, I say that my spirit of love for my country and Earth never departed.  My leaving was not by an accident any more than was Princess Diana’s death.  Our souls had agreed to serve in this way.  We knew at some level that our lives would be short on Earth by good intention, and we see that much has been accomplished in our names—more than if we had remained there.

Our lives were not lived in perfection, nor were they intended to be.  Our human frailties are like many others who also did much to assist in raising the human spirit and promoting the value of each life. 

I use again my words that still are publicly remembered: Ask not what your country can do for you.  Ask what you can do for your country.  But now I amend those: Ask not what your world can do for you.  Ask what you can do for your world. LOVE is the answer, the ONLY answer to rising above the misery still befalling so much of humanity.

The spirit in which Diana and I both endeavored to serve in our respective positions is stronger than ever within us.  More than ever before in the history of Earth there is opportunity to spread love throughout the world with feelings and actions.  More than ever before there is imperative need for this!  The moment of great transition is at hand.  Contribute to this for the sake of all life on Earth and your soul’s divine nurturing.

We are never separate one from another.  We are One with the Universe.

Thank you, Mother, and now we shall address some issues that readers have questioned.

If comet Ison explodes, will any large fragments be pulled by Earth’s gravity into a position that can endanger us?  No. Spacecraft roaming the skies are on the lookout for comets like Ison and other large celestial bodies that could pose danger to Earth, and when one might, they use their technology to detour its route. In the case of smaller objects, they maneuver them to an area where no heavy damage can result or they smash them to smithereens, whichever is safer for you and the planet.

No, a time has not been set for official acknowledgement of other civilizations’ presence, the landing of ships and introduction of family members living among you. God is in charge of timing because only at that height of awareness can it be known when Earth humankind is ready to welcome “aliens.” Your film industry has done a good job of portraying people from other civilizations as monstrosities that want to annihilate you or handsome, sly beings who want to enslave you—images of grotesque creatures and stories of ruthless intent are seared in many, many minds.

Some readers feel that nothing of noteworthy substance can happen until your space family is working alongside you, and that is not so. Because it is your world, it is up to you to decide what societal, political and economic reforms you want and endeavor to accomplish them; and in numerous messages we have delineated the many ways that you have been making strides toward those significant goals. What your family from other civilizations will do is tackle environmental issues that are beyond your capabilities—their technologies can dematerialize nuclear waste and depleted uranium, purify polluted rivers and seas, and restore deserts to arable condition. Also, their free energy systems are far advanced of your own, which by and large still are under Illuminati suppression.

Others are asking if channeled reports are true that benevolent ETs became discouraged and abandoned you and the only ones near Earth now will come as conquerors. That is a blatant lie set forth by base entities who know that only benevolent members of our universal family are in your solar system and they have been assisting you all along.

We cited one situation above; however, other civilizations have been helping Earth and her successive generations of residents throughout her history. Mother, please copy part of the book that describes their many kinds of assistance.

Remember the viruses called SARS, avian flu, swine flu and H1N1 that abruptly appeared on the scene simultaneously with media hoopla that each disease, in turn, was “feared to become a pandemic”? No pandemic happened because members of our universal family neutralized those laboratory-designed viruses, thus dooming the dark ones’ double intent for developing them—genuine pandemics with great loss of life and global chaos and fear.

Crews in your skies, who are there by the thousands and thousands, are using their technologies to reduce as much as possible the radiation from Japan’s damaged nuclear reactors, and they rendered less harmful to marine life the oil that kept gushing into the Gulf of Mexico. They are ameliorating the toxic effects of weaponry and other pollutants, and a civilization appearing as cloud formations is leading the way in cleansing Earth’s atmosphere.

As important as all those kinds of assistance are, perhaps the most significant help since “9/11” has been preventing the Illuminati from using nuclear warheads to mount similarly devastating terrorist attacks.  A dozen or so attempts have been thwarted by rendering the warheads impotent, sometimes in combination with missile malfunctions.  This is not a violation of Creator’s law of free will—it is honoring Earth’s free will choice that there will be no more terrorism like “9/11.”

Some of the strongest, most experienced light beings in this universe are right there among you, working behind the scenes to guide the essential changes so that as many of Earth’s residents who choose to accompany her into the higher planes can do so. This is how universally beloved and significant Earth is and how beloved and important YOU are!  …

These volunteers from spiritually evolved civilizations took on human bodies so they could live and work among you undetected.  Although they recognize each other from the distinctive auras that reflect their souls’ evolutionary station, only a few of you are sufficiently energy-sensitive to see them as different from anyone else.

The purpose of their presence derives from their superior intelligence that gives them entry into fields where they can beneficially influence actions and activities during this crucial time of Earth’s transition process.

What these benevolent visitors are doing is not a rarity in the universe—souls continue evolving through service to lesser developed civilizations.   As you continue to grow spiritually and intellectually, eventually you will be willing and able to help enlighten and uplift lesser evolved souls.

Some time ago we told you that the negativity that had become deeply entrenched due to millennia of humankind’s brutality to each other and the animals had been released. So, where is negativity coming from now?  As ever before, from the citizens of Earth.

In previous messages we have said that everything in existence is energy.  We have spoken about the power of thoughts, feelings, and written and spoken words, and we have stressed how crucial it is to focus on what you want, not on what you don’t want. Also we have explained why forgiveness and gratitude are so important. Evidence of these universal truths is in the ancient practice of ho’oponopono, which ties them all together into an “elixir of divine grace,” you might say.

The accomplishment of Dr. Hew Len, formerly a psychologist at a hospital for the criminally insane in Hawaii, is a stunning example of ho’oponopono’s efficacy. Instead of seeing patients during the couple of years he was there, he stayed in his office, sometimes looking at their files, and repeating over and over and over “I’m sorry.  Please forgive me.  I love you. Thank you.” By his accepting responsibility for the patients’ status—in essence, acknowledging the inseparable connection of all souls and that whatever one does affects all others—they started improving and continued until they were healed and released.

This remarkable proof of the power of thoughts and feelings can be enlightening and inspiring to everyone. Sharing that story along with feeling grateful for our universal family’s diligence, assistance and unconditional love will speed the day when life in your world is peaceful and harmonious.

Washington — President Barack Obama hailed the "daring" legacy and the "sober, square-jawed idealism" of John F. Kennedy on Wednesday, as he marked the 50th anniversary of the 35th US president's assassination.

Obama also paid homage, alongside fellow two-term Democratic president Bill Clinton, at Kennedy's hillside grave to honor a man murdered at the age of just 46, but whose legend endures for Americans as a symbol of their nation's spirit and possibility.

Later, at a dinner honoring winners of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, an award minted by Kennedy, Obama said that the wealthy slain president could have enjoyed a life of luxury and ease, but picked instead "a life in the arena."

"Fifty years later, John F. Kennedy stands for posterity as he did in life, young, bold and daring," said Obama, who was two years old when the 35th US president was killed.

"He stays with us in our imagination, not because he left us so soon, but because he embodied the character of the people that he led," Obama added at the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of American History in Washington.

"In his idealism, his sober, square-jawed idealism, we are reminded that the power to change this country is ours."

Obama and Clinton, along with First Lady Michelle Obama and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, earlier laid a large blue and white wreath on the sun-dappled grave of JFK, who was killed in Dallas on November 22, 1963.

They then stood together, with their hands on their hearts, as a bugler played the military lament "Taps."

Extended members of the Kennedy clan looked on at the tableau of presidential power, past, present and possibly future.

The observance came after Obama awarded Bill Clinton, and 15 other luminaries of the arts, sports, science and innovation the medal of freedom, his nation's highest civilian honor.

The Kennedy grave and eternal flame is at Arlington National Cemetery just outside Washington on a hillside with a paved area fashioned from Cape Cod granite quarried from near Kennedy's family homebase in Massachusetts.

The eternal flame was lit by Kennedy's wife Jacqueline Kennedy during his funeral in 1963 and she was buried beside her husband after her own death in 1994.

The poignant moment of remembrance came two days before the official half-century anniversary of the death of Kennedy, who was picked off as he rode an open-top limousine in Dallas, Texas, in a crime that traumatized the world.

The ceremonies have sparked a prolonged period of national and media reflection on the unfinished legacy of Kennedy, his tragedy-crossed family and the evocative period in the early 1960s when his political star illuminated the world.

Kennedy's closest living relative, his daughter Caroline, did not attend Wednesday's ceremony. An early supporter of Obama's presidential ambitions, she has just set off on a new chapter of her life as the US ambassador to Tokyo.

The joint Obama-Clinton appearance at the grave site represented the latest show of unity between two political power families who waged a bitter 2008 Democratic presidential nominating duel.

Hillary Clinton is now the red hot favorite to land the Democratic nomination for the 2016 election -- but has not said whether she will make another run for the White House.

Presidents Clinton and Obama, two-term leaders both, laid claim to Kennedy's legacy in their own White House runs.

Clinton was famously pictured meeting Kennedy at an event in the White House Rose Garden in July 1963, and has reminisced about how he set eyes on the presidency himself after shaking JFK's hand.

Obama accepted Kennedy's torch of Democratic Party idealism in a key moment of the 2008 campaign -- that irked the Clinton -- when his late brother Senator Edward Kennedy endorsed the White House hopeful at American University in Washington.

The two presidents stood together at a painful political moment for Obama, when he may be looking for political inspiration, after being brought low by the botched implementation of his signature health care law.

Kennedy's killing was blamed on a gunman, Lee Harvey Oswald, who was said to be acting alone.

But the 50 years since have been replete with conspiracy theories centering on whether Oswald was the true culprit and if he was acting on his own initiative or was part of a wider plot.

Kennedy released National Security Action Memorandum (NSAM) 271 on November 12, 1963, that required NASA’s administrator, James Webb, to share sensitive national security information with its equivalent Soviet space agency. More dramatic was another memorandum, allegedly authorized by Kennedy and issued the same day, that required the CIA Director, John McCone, to share classified UFO files with NASA, the State Department, and eventually the Soviet Union.

A newly released video interview reveals that Robert Kennedy, while U.S. Attorney General, received a classified briefing on a crashed UFO that was extraterrestrial in origin, and whose technology was secretly being reverse engineered. According to Lt Colonel Philip Corso, who served as head of the U.S. Army’s Foreign Technology Desk from 1961-1963, he personally briefed Kennedy about the Army’s effort to seed extraterrestrial technologies into the private sector. Interviewed shortly before his death in 1998, Corso revealed for the first time that Bobby Kennedy contacted him for his knowledge on highly classified national security information. Corso from 1953-1957 had served in a number of National Security Council committees during the Eisenhower administration as the Army Liaison reporting directly to Lt General Arthur Trudeau who was head of U.S. Army Intelligence. Corso’s revelation is further evidence that President Kennedy was aware of the extraterrestrial origins of UFOs. Kennedy sought to gain information on UFOs from various sources in order to re-establish direct Presidential control. It is very likely that this is the reason Bobby Kennedy sought Corso out. Corso’s revelation adds to evidence that President Kennedy’s efforts to gain oversight over UFOs played a role in his 1963 assassination. Importantly, Corso provides an insight into how the UFO issue may have also been a factor in the death of Marilyn Monroe and the 1968 assassination of Robert Kennedy.

In his interview, Corso said:

• "I discussed this very thoroughly with Bobby Kennedy, the attorney general, the President’s brother… He knew about the flying saucers, I talked to him about it. I used to meet him when he was attorney general right in his office… What went to Bobby went to the President also."

Corso was aware that Robert Kennedy was a direct conduit to the President who was constantly briefed by his brother. Corso further explained in the interview that the meeting(s) happened in 1962, soon after Corso had testified on a Senate Committee about classified national security issues. At the time Corso was in charge of the Foreign Technology Desk, and reported directly to General Trudeau who then headed the Army’s Research and Development Division. Corso explained that he agreed to testify on the condition that his testimony was to be relayed directly to the Kennedy brothers. According to Corso, he was soon after contacted by Robert Kennedy who wanted to learn more about Corso’s knowledge and activities. Robert Kennedy’s role in learning about UFOs made him a key figure in ensuring that classified information the Kennedy brothers had gained about extraterrestrial life and technology would not be leaked to the public.

Robert Kennedy was allegedly involved in silencing Marilyn Monroe who in 1962 was prepared to blow the whistle on President Kennedy’s secret visit to an Air Force base to see alien bodies. A leaked unconfirmed Top Secret CIA wiretap summary of conversations concerning Monroe and the Kennedy brothers states:

• Rothberg indicated in so many words, that she [Monroe] had secrets to tell, no doubt arising from her trists [sic] with the President and the Attorney General. One such "secret" mentions the visit by the President at a secret air base for the purpose of inspecting things from outer space. Kilgallen replied that she knew what might be the source of visit [sic]. In the mid-fifties Kilgallen learned of secret effort by US and UK governments to identify the origins of crashed spacecraft and dead bodies, from a British government official. Kilgallen believed the story may have come from the New Mexico story [Roswell] in the late forties.

If Monroe was indeed aware of President Kennedy’s secret visit to see downed alien life and technology, and was about to blow the whistle, then she was a security threat. She directly jeopardized the Kennedy brothers efforts to restore direct Presidential oversight of extraterrestrial related issues. The stakes couldn’t be higher since President Kennedy had so far been frustrated in his efforts to regain control of UFO information from the CIA. If Monroe blew the whistle, the Kennedys would have zero chance of learning anything from the secretly appointed officials in charge of extraterrestrial affairs. Significantly, Robert Kennedy was sighted in Monroe’s house shortly before her death:

• Norman Jeffries who worked with Marilyn's housekeeper Eunice Murray and helped around the house, said that some men came to Marilyn's house around 10:00 pm the night of her death. One man recognized by Mr. Jeffries was Robert Kennedy, who was accompanied by two men he didn't know. Elizabeth Pllard, who lived right next door to Marilyn and held bridge parties every Saturday night states that she saw Bobby Kennedy and two other men walk right past the window, headed for Marilyn's house, and one of the men was carrying a small black bag of the sort that a doctor would carry. According to Norman Jeffries, Bobby and the two mystery men entered the house and ordered Norman and Eunice to leave. Marilyn Munroe biographer Donald Wolfe quotes Norman as saying, "I mean they made it clear we were to be gone."

It appears that Robert Kennedy was a factor in the silencing and/or assassination of Monroe, and that this happened because of the security threat she posed to the Kennedy brothers efforts to restore direct Presidential oversight over the extraterrestrial issue.

Significantly, the leaked CIA transcript of the wiretap conversation of Monroe was signed by James [Jesus] Angleton, chief of counterintelligence for the CIA. Angleton’s CIA counterintelligence was closely involved in maintaining security for classified UFO files. Angleton closely watched Monroe and the Kennedy brothers to find out what they had learned about UFOs, and if they posed a security threat to the system created to secretly maintain information about extraterrestrial life and technology.

Even more importantly, another leaked document reveals that Angleton, two days before President Kennedy’s assassination on November 22, 1963, was in possession of a number of secret directives concerning the release of classified UFO information. One of these was a cryptic Assassination Directive that permitted the silencing/termination of public officials that threatened the security and oversight system created for secretly managing extraterrestrial affairs. The Directive states:

• "Draft - Directive Regarding Project Environment - When conditions become non-conducive for growth in our environment and Washington cannot be influenced any further, the weather is lacking any precipitation … it should be wet."

Dr Robert Wood who is the foremost expert in analyzing MJ-12 documents using forensic methods, has concluded that the burned document is an assassination directive. There is evidence suggesting that the assassination directive was carried out by a secret unit under the control of Angleton’s CIA counterintelligence division against President Kennedy.

Corso’s revelations about briefing Robert Kennedy on UFOs suggests that the Kennedy brothers were sufficiently informed about extraterrestrial life and technology, to pose a direct challenge to those managing extraterrestrial affairs. The ensuing struggle between the Kennedy brothers and the controllers of UFO/extraterrestrial information was a very high stakes affair. While Robert Kennedy may have been involved in the silencing/assassination of Marilyn Monroe over her threats to blow the whistle on the President’s secret visit to see a downed UFO and alien bodies, Robert Kennedy may himself have been ultimately assassinated due to his UFO knowledge. The 1968 assassination of then Senator Robert Kennedy put a final end to the Kennedy brothers efforts to restore direct Presidential control over extraterrestrial life and technology.
