When President Obama arrives back in Washington this morning after his Hawaiian vacation, he'll be greeted by a rare bit of good news on the political front.

According to Gallup, Obama's approval rating is currently at 50 percent — the highest it has been in seven months. That's up nine points since early November, when Obama acknowledged this his party took a "shellacking" in the midterm elections.
It's too soon to tell if this is a comeback. While Obama's job approval has hit the 50 percent mark before, Gallup notes that he's had a tough time maintaining that number for more than two weeks in a row.
According to Gallup, Obama is at 80 percent approval among Democrats and 47 percent approval among independents — two key voting blocs that fueled his 2008 presidential run. But only 16 percent of Republicans believe he's doing a good job.
Still, the poll is likely to be welcome news for a president trying to gain momentum ahead of his 2012 re-election effort.
