Gaurdian: Flotilla activists shot at short range

Radio Netherlands Worldwide, 7 June 2010 - 9:36pm

The nine pro-Palestinian activists who were killed in an aid flotilla last week during a Israeli raid on their ship, were mainly shot at short-range. The Turkish activists on the ship Mavi Marmara were hit 30 times in total. Five died of shots through the head.

British newspaper The Guardian reported the findings of autopsies in Turkey on Saturday. A 60-year-old activist had shot wounds to the temple, the chest, hip and back. A 19-year-old victim, with American nationality, was shot five times from a distance of 45 centrimetres.

The Guardian says the new information undermines the official Israeli version that the soldiers opened fire out of self defence and as a reaction to attacks by the activists.
