US President Barack Obama has promised to prosecute those who are to responsible for the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico if he has to.

The promise was made following the first meeting at the White House of a committee to investigate the oil disaster. The committee has been charged with finding out what caused the disaster. It is also expected to come up with recommendations for oil drilling at sea in the future.

British oil company BP said earlier that it will take weeks before the oil leak is sealed after last week’s attempt to stop it using a so-called Top Kill procedure. Meanwhile the oil pollution in the Gulf of Mexico is the biggest environmental disaster in American history.
